At Konvoy, we believe that video games are one of the most fun, engaging, and relatable ways for kids to learn. This is why we invested in Legends of Learning (focused today on grades 3-8) earlier this year. Today’s kids are growing up in a digital world and video games are where most kids are already spending their free time.
We also have a strong belief that unlocking player creativity is a powerful asset for the entire gaming industry (a trend we highlighted in our 2021 recap piece). This part of creative development starts at a young age which is why we are so excited to announce our investment in Pok Pok, an award-winning studio centered around creative, play-based learning experiences for kids. Their first product, Pok Pok Playroom, is a collection of handcrafted toys that spark imagination, creativity and learning through open-ended play.
When we first met Melissa Cash, Esther Huybreghts and their team, it was clear to us that building delightful, educational, play-based experiences was core to how they were building Pok Pok. The founding team has strong roots in game development from their experience building award-winning iOS games at Snowman, the small studio behind Alto’s Adventure, Alto’s Odyssey, Skate City and others. They identified that the alternatives on the market are not well-suited for younger audiences and their development and immediately sought to build a product that parents trust and kids love.
We are extremely excited to partner with Melissa, Esther, and their team and couldn’t be more excited to lead their $3m Seed round (TechCrunch) with participation from Initial Capital and angel investors. Their existing investors include Tiny, as well as angel investors Jon Levy, the co-founder of Mastermind Toys and Dax Dasilva, the founder and executive chair of Montreal-based tech company Lightspeed, and Pok Pok could not be better positioned to pursue their mission to help raise and inspire the next generation of creative thinkers.
We are thrilled to be in their corner for the journey ahead.
